New HKU visibility study confirms worst fears about HK’s diminishing visibility

A new study
from the University of Hong Kong’s Department of Community Medicine has found that, for the loss of every 6.5 kilometers of visibility in Hong Kong, there is a 1.13 percent increase in the number of deaths from natural causes, resulting in about 450 additional deaths per year. This study not only brings to light a new way to measure air pollution and its health impacts, it also proves that Hong Kong’s haze is not a random, arbitrary event, but actually the result of man-made pollution, especially NOx and PM from vehicles.
